How does mole removal in Seoul work?
Mole removal in Seoul should start with a dermatologist examining each spot, often with a dermatoscope. Small moles that look benign are commonly removed with a CO2 laser. Anything irregular or changing should be cut out and sent for a biopsy instead. Warts are usually frozen or lasered, and skin tags are snipped, frozen or zapped.
Which moles should never be lasered?
A laser vaporizes the mole, so nothing is left for a lab to check. That’s why US dermatologists don’t usually laser or freeze moles. In East Asia, CO2 laser is a common way to remove small facial moles, and it’s reasonable for spots a dermatologist has examined and judged benign. It is the wrong tool for a mole you’re worried about.
The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) uses the ABCDEs as warning signs:
- A, Asymmetry: one half of the spot is unlike the other half.
- B, Border: the edge is irregular, scalloped or poorly defined.
- C, Color: shades vary from one area to the next (tan, brown, black, sometimes white, red or blue).
- D, Diameter: melanomas are usually larger than 6 mm (about a pencil eraser) when found, but they can be smaller.
- E, Evolving: it looks different from your other moles, or is changing in size, shape or color.
The AAD also says to see a board-certified dermatologist for any new spot, a spot that looks different from the rest, or one that itches or bleeds. For any of these, the right step is an exam and, if the doctor agrees, a biopsy: the mole is removed and checked under a microscope. Doctors have published cases of melanoma diagnosed after a pigmented spot was lasered, and they stress that moles are not a routine reason for laser treatment.
CO2 laser vs excision vs freezing: which method for which spot?
| Method | How it works | Best for | Tissue for a lab? | Healing and marks |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CO2 laser | Vaporizes the spot | Small moles a dermatologist has judged benign; some warts | No | Small shallow wound; mole cells left deeper can grow back |
| Shave removal | A blade shaves it level with the skin | Raised moles | Yes, in most cases | Flat mark; can regrow |
| Excision | Cut out, stitched if needed | Suspicious, larger or deeper moles | Yes | A fine line scar |
| Freezing (cryotherapy) | Liquid nitrogen freezes it | Warts, skin tags | No | Blister or crust; can lighten or darken skin |
| Electrosurgery | A fine needle burns or zaps it | Skin tags; warts (with scraping) | Not usually | A scab that heals over 1–3 weeks for skin tags |
For mole removal in Korea: laser for small, clearly harmless moles, and excision or shave with a biopsy for anything uncertain. Ask which method is planned for each spot, and why.
Wart removal in Seoul: why it often takes more than one visit
Warts are caused by a virus. The AAD says most people need more than one freezing treatment, repeated every 2–4 weeks, so one visit in Seoul may only be the first round. Laser is used for stubborn warts, sometimes over several sessions, with discoloration, swelling and soreness for up to two weeks. Electrosurgery with scraping (curettage) usually takes one treatment, which suits a short trip better.
The AAD advises a dermatologist visit for warts on the face or genitals, warts that change, hurt, itch or bleed, many warts, or if you have diabetes or a weakened immune system. Genital warts need a medical visit, not a cosmetic package.
How does skin tag removal in Korea work?
Skin tags are harmless, so removal is a choice, usually for looks or because they catch on clothing. The AAD describes three methods: snipping with sterile scissors or a blade after numbing, freezing with liquid nitrogen, or zapping with a fine needle (electrodesiccation). Zapped tags scab over and heal in about one to three weeks. Don’t use wart removers on skin tags; the AAD warns they can damage the skin.
Who should wait or take extra care?
- Any mole with ABCDE signs: exam and biopsy first, never laser first.
- Keloids or raised scars in the past: tell the doctor before they choose a method.
- Diabetes or a weakened immune system: a dermatologist should plan treatment.
- Infection or broken skin at the site: wait until it has cleared.
- Blood thinners, pregnancy or breastfeeding: tell the doctor and ask whether to wait.
- Darker skin tones: laser wounds carry a higher risk of dark marks, so sun protection matters more.
Flat brown spots are a different problem from raised moles. For those, see our pigmentation guide.
Healing, scab care and timing before you fly
The AAD’s wound care advice: wash gently with mild soap and water. Keep the area moist with petroleum jelly, which stops it drying into a hard scab. Cover it with a bandage, change it daily, and don’t pick. Any method can leave a mark: excision leaves a fine line, and freezing or laser can leave lighter or darker skin. Once healed, use broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen and reapply often, as sun can darken the mark. If a removed mole grows back, the AAD says to see a dermatologist right away, as regrowth can be a sign of melanoma.
- Book the exam on day one or two. That leaves time for an excision instead of laser if needed, and for a wound check before you fly.
- If you have a biopsy, ask when and how results will reach you, and get a copy of the report for your doctor at home.
- Travel with the wound clean, moist and covered, and skip pools, the sea and saunas until the skin has closed.
What decides the price of mole removal in Seoul?
Clinics often price removal per spot or by size, so the total depends on how many spots you have, how big and deep they are, and whether they’re on the face or body. Laser and excision with stitches are priced differently. The dermatoscope exam, numbing, dressings, a follow-up check and pathology (a separate lab fee) can all change the quote. For warts, the number of sessions matters most. Ask for a written quote listing each spot, its method, and whether pathology is included.

FAQ
Can a laser remove any mole?
No. A laser destroys the mole, so it cannot be checked under a microscope. It suits only moles a dermatologist has examined and judged benign. A changing or irregular mole should be removed surgically and sent for a biopsy.
Will my mole come back after laser removal?
It can. Laser treatment can leave mole cells deeper in the skin, so some moles regrow. If a removed mole grows back, the AAD advises seeing a dermatologist right away, because regrowth can be a sign of melanoma.
How many sessions does wart removal take?
Often more than one. The AAD says most people need more than one freezing treatment, repeated every 2 to 4 weeks. Electrosurgery with scraping usually takes one treatment.
Can I fly after mole removal?
Ask your doctor. Book removal early in your trip so the clinic can check the wound before you leave, and keep it clean, moist and covered while you travel.
Will mole removal leave a scar?
Any method can leave a mark. Excision leaves a fine line, and laser or freezing can leave lighter or darker skin. Gentle wound care, and sunscreen once the skin has healed, help the mark fade.
